Why we chose organic cotton
Not every cotton is the same — and for something against your baby's skin, that difference matters.
Conventional cotton is grown with synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilisers, and can carry trace residue from the chemicals used to grow and process it. Organic cotton skips all of that — grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, or GMOs, and processed without harsh chemical treatments.
| Conventional cotton | Organic cotton | |
|---|---|---|
| Grown with | Synthetic pesticides & fertilisers | Natural methods only — no synthetic chemicals |
| On skin | May retain trace chemical residue | No synthetic residue — gentler against delicate skin |
| Water use | Heavily irrigation-dependent | Up to ~90% less water in most growing regions |
| Verification | No organic certification | Independently verified by GOTS, seed to finished product |
That last row is the one that matters most. GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) isn't a brand claiming to be organic — it's an independent body checking every stage, from the farm to the finished swaddle, before that label can be used.
Every Hug Swaddle product is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, tested safe against your baby's skin. Our Organic range goes one step further — GOTS-certified organic cotton, for parents who want that extra layer of reassurance.
